Cathy & Marcy Celebrate 25 Years
For 25 years, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer have been inspirational trailblazers in the world of family music. With an ear to the past and an eye to the future, they honor tradition and they invent “brand new.” They are songwriters, producers, music educators, and all around wonderful people. They continue to raise the bar for those of us in family music, and we’re better artists because of their influence.
Cathy & Marcy just released a brand new EP in called Cathy and Marcy’s Triple Play. The recording features a brand new, rockin’ arrangement of their hit song “Air Guitar,” plus two new and original songs: “B Is for Birthday” and “Better When We Sing It Together.” Cathy and Marcy’s Triple Play is available on CDBaby for $2.50, or 99 cents per track.
Cathy & Marcy are planning two family concerts to celebrate their 25th musical anniversary:
Saturday, October 30th - Music Center at Strathmore, with guest artists Bonnie Rideout and Ella Jenkins.

Sunday, November 7th - McCabe’s Guitar Shop, Santa Monica, CA. Click here for more information.

I’m so happy to announce that our new CD, More Story Songs & Sing Alongs has been honored with a Parents’ Choice Award! Here’s what Parents’ Choice reviewer, Lynne Heffley had to say:
“I Think I Can” (a song version of “The Little Engine That Could”) and “Rosie Wrong Rhyme” exemplify the child-savvy, play-along spirit that singer Debbie Cavalier brings to her music for the preschool and little lunchbox set. “I Think I Can” echoes the gentle encouragement that is Cavalier’s trademark. “Rosie,” a little girl who can’t get her rhymes right, gives young listeners the comical context that allows them to anticipate the right answer. (Written by Norman Martin, “Rosie” is one of only two songs that are not Cavalier originals here). She is well-accompanied by a host of adult musicians and vocalists of all ages, including “Sesame Street’s” Bob McGrath, who helps out on the mellow, harmonic good-bye song, “Until Next Time.”

Thanks for all of your interest in the Debbie and Friends GarageBand Remix Contest. It’s been great fun!
The winner is Boogie Cindy from the Boogie Wonder Band, and 12-year old Alaïa Lamontagne. Congratulations to Cindy and Alaïa for producing a very creative rendition of “Willy Won’t” complete with a percussion break, vocal effects, a kids shout-out chorus, and much more.
As you will hear, they transformed “Willy Won’t” from its original Southern-rock feel to that of an Electronica tune. It’s very cool! To hear the winning track, check out the music player on the Remix Contest Site:

Thanks again to everyone who participated, and congratulations to Boogie Cindy and the Boogie Wonder Band from Quebec, Canada. Your prizes are on the way!

Calling all Kids (and their Parents): Create a Debbie and Friends Remix in GarageBand and enter your remix to win some great prizes!
Here’s a chance to try your hand as a record producer. Between now and April 4, families can play around with the tracks of “Willy Won’t,” a new song from our forthcoming CD, More Story Songs & Sing Alongs, to create their own version.
It is easy to enter the contest at http://debbieandfriendsremix.ning.com/.
Contestants may download the Garageband file to the song “Willy Won’t” from the contest site, and load it into their GarageBand app on their Mac computer. The family mix engineers can then record additional tracks, raise or lower the volume on existing tracks, add special effects, and add their own special touches to create a unique version of “Willy Won’t.”
Contestants must submit their remix entries by Sunday, April 4th, as instructed on the contest site.
All entries will be considered, and the winner will be announced on Monday, April 5th. The winners will receive great prizes from Debbie and Friends including CDs, music instructional books, t-shirts and other great gear. The winning remix will also be featured on this blog.
Here’s the original version.
Let’s hear what yours will sound like! Good luck!

Home Run Ronnie, in production
Here’s a sneak preview of our brand new cartoon, currently in production. It’s based on a song called “Home Run Ronnie” about my nephew. The song will be included on our new CD, More Story Songs and Sing Alongs, soon to be released. I hope you enjoy it! The finished cartoon will be ready by the end of February 2010.
Thanks to Tom Jackson (Mr. J!) for the song idea!
